Nicole S. Symmonds, Ph.D.
Facilitator + Educator (she, her)
Hello, my name is Nicole. I am a social ethicist who teaches and focuses on women, gender, and sexuality – particularly, Black women's lived, embodied experience in North America. Most days, you can find me working as a faculty member at Columbia Theological Seminary, where I teach courses related to my research that explores the racializing effects of evangelical anti-trafficking work and constructs a womanist ethic of encounter for urban mission outreach. At Max Haus, I assist with client engagements related to creating an equitable working environment for women of color, women, and other minoritized populations. I am also available for public speaking engagements related to my research and other related DEI topics.
I hold a Ph.D. from Emory University’s Laney Graduate School with a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I am also a proud alumna of Florida A&M University – Let’s go, Rattlers! - where I completed my undergraduate coursework in journalism. I enjoy working with news organizations, institutions of higher learning, and religious institutions navigating questions related to organizational/communal identity, social advocacy, and moving theory to practice. I look forward to exploring partnerships and shared learning opportunities with you.
Nicole’s Favorites: biking, Carnival, dancing, fine dining, thoughtful dialogue with friends, everything FAMU, Rihanna, and too many other things to name.
