Karen Teresa Ricks

Operations Lead + Facilitator (she, her)

Hey there, I’m Karen Teresa Ricks – also known as K.T. or Katie. One of my earliest experiences with DEI was navigating the ordination process in my denomination. After fourteen long years, I was the first out lesbian woman to be ordained in the South and the first out lesbian ordained after the rules changed to permit the ordination of queer, trans, and non-binary folks in the Presbyterian Church USA. As a result of this experience, I committed myself to learning more about intersectionality and have become a lifelong advocate working with marginalized populations in higher educational contexts, faith-based institutions, and religious organizations.

At Max Haus, I help with all things operations to ensure clients and our team have all they need to create positive change in the world. I also assist clients needing assistance with matters related to LGBTQ+ inclusion, unlearning white supremacist culture, and questions of religious formation + identity. I specialize in working with colleges/universities, faith-based/community organizations, and social advocacy organizations. In my spare time, I continue to work as a Minister of Word & Sacrament with religious communities experiencing transition and as a Spiritual Director. I look forward to connecting with you and learning how Max Haus can help you expand your understanding of community and humanity.

Karen’s Favorites: NY Times daily games, weightlifting, puppy play time (DayZ), time with my family (we have three generations under one roof!), and women’s athletics.
